X-Games preparty…at a new club called Opera in Hollywood.
The decor inside is really nice but kind of a small venue…their outdoor patio
is pretty cool. A lot of celebrities in attendance that night
but I didn’t really notice, namely Avril Lavigne, Owen Wilson, Travis Barker, Ron
Jeremy (again). I’m pretty bad about recognizing famous people unless
someone points them out to me.Running…I’ve been better at keeping up the exercise
routine. Went to Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach…it’s
pretty much a 100ft sandy hill. Did it 3 times and it was definitely a
good workout for your calves and butt.
It gets surprisingly pretty crowded in the evenings after work.Girls Happy Hour…went to Nick
& Stef’s in downtown LA. Appetizers
and drinks are discounted until 7:30pm. Their braised short rib quesadillas were
yummy. Loved their pineapple martinis
too. Afterwards we went to the Edison
for some more drinks. It’s pretty huge so
it never really felt packed and the historic décor is pretty neat. Definitely more of a chill scene than Hollywood. Since it was still early, decided to go check
out Bar 107 too but I think it was a little too divey for how we were dressed
so we didn’t stay too long. I guess I
must be getting old because I was able to get into 3 bars without having my
ID. I’d like to think it was my skills
at flirting but I’m pretty sure my white hairs gave me awayOC Fair…decided to go for all the
fried foods. Luckily we got free tickets
and VIP parking. We tried the deep fried
coke (yes that’s correct…it’s dough that’s been soaked in coke and then deep
fried). It tasted a little too sweet and
rich for me. Shared the jumbo ½ pound
hot dog. Walked around for a little bit
and left. Afterwards we headed over to
Fury’s in Newport Beach for some
appetizers and clubbing. It’s a cool
place but definitely consisted of the OC crowd that’s a little too money/status
conscious for my taste. Music was good
but the speakers were way too loud and left my ears ringing.Mountain Biking…went to the
Westridge trailhead in the Santa Monica
mountains. It’s 7.4 miles (1700 ft
elevation gain) roundtrip to the top which is the Nike missile station with
great views. It’s mainly fire road so
good for beginners but there are some single track stuff on the side trails
that are pretty challenging.BBQ…grubbed on some yummy food…Kalbi,
jalapenos, shrimp, rice, hummus, vegetables.
It was fun playing games like Cranium and Fact or Crap. Maybe it’s another sign that I’m getting
older but I much prefer game nights to going out.

My friend’s farewell party turned out having a lot of people and a nice group of people. I think there were around 40 people, and most of them are surfers. But sounds like you had a fun night too.
