  • Pier to Pier…went jogging all the way from Manhattan to Hermosa and back.  It was a good run of 4 miles…I love watching
the sunset at the beach.  Too bad there
are too many mosquitos out at night now.

Ktown…had Korean BBQ at Soot Bull Jeep.  I like this place because they use charcoal
grills and you can definitely taste the difference.  We had kalbee, short rib, and bulgogi (it was
so good it just melted in my mouth…definitely my favorite).  They don’t give you as much good pan chan
here.  Washed down all the food with some
Hite beer.  Afterwards we went to Kool
lounge and ordered a pitcher of their amber lager.  Interesting discussion about the Game and how
guys should approach girls at bars/clubs.

Hammerfest…late night party at the Armand
    Hammer
museum in Westwood where the galleries were open until
11pm and they have a cash bar as well as
a DJ playing music.  There were even some
people dancing.  It was the last night of
the Eden’s Edge exhibit which highlights art from 15 different LA artists.  Very interesting pieces ranging from neon
lights to ceramic sculptures tied with scarves to drawings of orgies and
mushrooms to giant Buddhas.   We had dinner first at Noodle Planet and later we grabbed some drinks at Westwood
    Brewing Company
where they were promoting the new Balls of Fury movie.

Birthdays…had a ton of them this weekend but
ended up only going to one at E3rd in downtown.
Man the service here was so bad.
They cleared our drinks and table before we were done and then took
forever to bring us our food.  At least
they tried to make it up by bringing us another round of drinks and comping one
of the entrees.  The food was ok…I like
their sautéed mushrooms and kim chi mashed potatoes.  The lemon drop sojutinis weren’t bad
either.  It was supposed to turn into a
lounge later that night but it was so dead that we ended up leaving.

Bike Riding…rode from Hermosa up to Marina del
Rey and back…probably 20 miles or so.
Originally wanted to make it up to
Venice or Santa Monica but we needed to go
back and put more money in the meter.
Stopped for drinks at Hennessey's and had lunch at Wahoos.  Afterwards went home to take a nap and then it
was time to meet up with some friends for dinner at Indian Restaurant in
    San Gabriel.
I thought the food would be Indian but it was really a Chinese restaurant
where the waitresses dressed up like native American Indians.  For dessert we went to Crepe in the Grip…their
crepe with mango, nutella, and chocolate ice cream was soooo good!

    Taquitz…did a multi-pitch trad route called
White Maiden’s Walkway which is rated a 5.4 (5 pitches) but definitely had
moves that were more 5.6/5.7.  We ended
up free soloing the first pitch and then a thunderstorm came while we were
finishing the second pitch.  Lightening +
climbing + gear made of metal = not a good idea.  We waited out the storm though and it was
worth it.  Clear sunny skies afterwards
and gorgeous rainbows.  After we finished
the route, we toproped the last pitch of Left Ski Track which was pretty
tough.  We stopped for dinner at La
Casitas, a charming Mexican restaurant in Idyllwild.

Me and my climbing partner Brian at the top of Taquitz...sorry girls he's married with kids

  • i'm lost. how should guys approach girls? help

  • Man I missed Hammerfest this year! Drat. I love the Hermosa to Manhattan and back run. It's so relaxing; it actually makes me feel like a runner. Bike riding and Wahoos.... this is why I need to spend more weekends in town.

I've actually heard that being on the side of a climb is a good place to be for lightening. You just don't want to stand out too much, like being the only thing on a wide flat area. I'm impressed you did 6 pitches with your own gear. I've only done sport climbing, so anybody who holds a move while placing gear impresses me. Where are the rainbow photos?!

ryc: Langley is a super easy 14er. It was an easy walk up, with scrambling for maybe 10 feet, maybe. Cirque Peak the day previous was much more challenging, but maybe just the route we took. If I could do it again, I'd do it as a day hike from the Horseshoe Meadows/Cottonwood Lakes trailhead, start early, climb Langley First then head over the ridge to Cirque and down. Probably less than 20 miles and about 4000' gain.

  • did you see song kun's exhibit at hammer?

  • wow... sounds like fun. my schedule doesn't have nearly as much variety - i've gone kiteboarding for the last three days. monday w/ waves, yesterday w/ flat water, and today right on top of a kelp forest.

langley is easy... with your 45 mile backpacks, you should be down langley in time for lunch... :)

  • haha everytime I see a diff pic of you, it's like you're on a different mountain/plateau. Are you trying to scale the world's mountains? =D

  • meh, missed climbing intro class last night... will take one with my gf... she's lighter than you, so i'm a bit concerned, lol

  • Wow, sounds like have the life!  Everything sounds fun:)

  • im doing a makeup bike ride this saturday with gee....  =)

  • Small Request: I'd love to read a detailed trip report about your latest backpacking trip. It sounds like it should have been really fun!
